WARRENSBURG, MO (April 5, 2010) –The University of Central Missouri kicks off its 2011 Earth Week celebration with a week of recycling programs to improve our campus and our community.
UCM is hosting “Mo Recycles Like Crazy!” to provide an avenue for students and community members to properly dispose unwanted recyclable materials. Each event begins at 8 a.m. and concludes at 5 p.m.
● On Monday, April 18, an e-waste (electronic devices and equipment) recycler provided by Mid-American Recycling will be on campus in the UCM Parking lot at Holden and South Streets to take e-waste for proper disposal. Electronic equipment with a compressor may not be recycled because of the possible presence of Freon.
● On Tuesday, April 19 in the UCM Parking lot at Holden and South Streets, Ripple Glass and Heartland Waste will be providing recycling bins to get rid of all your glass bottles. Glass is one of the few materials that may be recycled infinitely without losing strength, purity, or quality.
● On Wednesday, April 20 come to the UCM Parking lot at Holden and South Streets to help Central’s comprehensive recycling program while changing the culture on campus by recycling your paper, plastic items, and cans.

Sodexho will gather all compostables for display and subsequent transport to CAFES at UCM for trench composting. “Mo Recycles Like Crazy” continues with textiles. Soles for Souls and a shoe drive from Tom’s Shoes will also take place in the parking lot at South and Holden streets. Fleece, flannel, corduroy, cotton, nylon, denim, wool, and linen will all be collected. Most recovered household textiles will be donated to the Salvation Army or another charitable organization for sale or reuse, and the remainder will go to a textile recovery facility.
● On Thursday, April 21 and continuing on Friday, April 22, the Environmental Awareness Club along with additional Warrensburg charities will be hosting a campus-wide clothing swap in the Elliott Union atrium from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is an eco-friendly opportunity to get rid of your unwanted, gently-used clothes and pick up some new clothing, all absolutely free! On Friday, April 22, “Mo Recycles Like Crazy!” concludes with an additional day to recycle your textiles and shoes.
